Time for action clock

WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER

One of the most common issues Tough Love hears from people in the Direct Sales industry is that they don’t have the time to get everything done to make their business a success. What if I was to tell you that ANYBODY can grow a million dollar team, $100,000 personal sales or both with roughly 15-20 hours a week?  All you need is an action plan, structure and discipline. If you set clear goals and spend time on tasks that are money & business producing and effective versus unproductive activities, you will see how much more you can accomplish in just a few hours. Work smarter, not harder.

The most important thing to know about your business is where you are spending your time.  Are you in front of the TV, on Facebook or creating useless documents that you never incorporate into your business? I recommend using a Time Log (email lisa@toughloveadvising.com if you would like us to send you one) to gain an understanding of how you are utilizing your day. Once you see where you are being productive or wasteful with your time, you can form an action plan!

You should also create an outline of what you need to do on a daily or weekly basis for your business. Once you have this outline and an idea of your available time, you can then create a schedule to ensure you are being productive.  The following list are areas that most MLM business owners need to focus on:

  • TRAINING/EDUCATION: 2-3 hours a week on training/education (such as attending a meeting, conference calls, shadowing or listening/watching demos and presentations. In reality, the conference calls can be listened to while you are doing other things such as getting ready, driving, etc. This doesn’t need to even count towards the 3 hours)
  • BUSINESS PREP: 30 minutes per party/demonstratio. If you are doing 2 parties/demonstrations a week, that’s only 1 hour each week.
  • CUSTOMER FOLLOW UP: 1-2 hours depending on your contact base. This is one of the most important areas of your business and should be a priority.  
  • SPONSORING/SHARING THE BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY- 1-2 hours on sponsoring calls or appointments (if your focus is on growing your team this may need to be adjusted)
  • TEAM MANAGEMENT- 1-3 hours dedicated to helping your team (this can include check in calls, organizing trainings, creating team incentives, etc)
  • MARKETING/NETWORKING- 2-3 hour finding new customers and growing your brand (set a goal to attend at least one networking opportunity or event each week)
  • SOCIAL MEDIA & CUSTOMER COMMUNICATION- 1-2 hour (this includes emails, Social Media, and Constant Contact)
  • MISCELLANEOUS- 1 hour on random tasks

This is all based on averaging 2 presentations a week. Once you become consistent and create systems, this time doesn’t need to increase, only the hours you spend doing more presentations! For those of you that are focusing on building a large and successful organization, you should consider that this takes additional hours during the week. Depending on the size of your team and how quickly people are joining this can be anywhere between 2-10 hours per week doing various activities such as check in calls, trainings, etc.   

Creating a consistent, time effective schedule will make the biggest impact in your business. If you don’t have enough time to dedicate 15+ hours a week then start out with less just make sure whatever you are spending your time on is business producing. Remember that everything takes practice so stick with it and see all the great things that will happen!
